Build WebXR experiences with Mozilla Hubs

Update: Mozilla ended support for Hubs on May 31, 2024. The demo server, subscriptions, and Hubs Cloud are no longer available. The open-source codebase is now maintained by the Hubs Foundation, which continues development as a community-driven project.

Mozilla Hubs is an open-source platform for creating and sharing immersive virtual spaces on the web. Users can build custom VR environments, invite others to join in real time, and explore a range of interactive 3D scenes — all from a standard web browser.

Built on WebXR, Hubs requires no downloads or plugins. Anyone with a browser can enter a shared space on desktop, mobile, or VR headset. This low barrier to entry made it one of the most accessible social VR platforms available.

Inside a Hubs room, participants communicate through spatial voice chat and text, and can share screens, 3D models, images, and videos. Hand gestures and avatar expressions add a layer of presence beyond what flat video calls offer.

Although Mozilla has stepped back, the Hubs Foundation is carrying the project forward. The codebase remains open source, and self-hosted deployments are still possible for teams and communities that want to run their own social VR infrastructure on the web.
